About Me

Hello :)

My name's Tim, I'm an Australian singer/songwriter hailing from Perth.

I was born in December, 1989, in the South African town of Pietermaritzburg (bastard to write on immigration forms) in Kwa-Zula Natal. My family made the move to Australia ten years later in 1999.

At the end of 2006, I decided that I'd like to try and teach myself the guitar, and so set about doing so. I made an effort to learn a few songs that I knew and liked, but initially found it too difficult. The solution, I resolved, was to write my own songs. That way, nobody could reproach me for playing them incorrectly.

Among the first songs I wrote were Requiem and Shadowland. In fact, they were the second and third songs, respectively, I ever wrote. Following these I fell in love with the guitar, and between 2007 and 2008 I wrote roughly sixty songs. The vast majority of them were not worth listening to, but a small number of them were. They form the majority of the songs on the CD.

Making a CD was an idea I toyed with for some time, before eventually resolving to set about doing it towards the end of 2009, at the same time that I decided to defer my veterinary studies in 2010. I had been collecting recording equipment and experimenting with it for some time already, but there were still some gaps to be filled before I could really call it a working studio.

I bought the remaining ingredients at the beginning of 2010, and also began planning a European tour. It was also at this time that I wrote the final addition to the CD, the final track of the CD. With this song I knew the CD said everything I wanted it to say, and its production began in earnest.

It took many months of trial and error before I began producing recordings I was content with. It was difficult, but undeniably the most rewarding project I've ever undertaken. In the final month things became frenzied. I decided to book myself a spot at the Open-Mic night at Mojos Bar in Fremantle. This gave me a deadline for the CD that could not be altered, and as a result I really got to work.

Somehow, in the end, it all came together. The performance went well and I departed on my trip. This blog was intended to document that trip, as I busked my way around Europe, selling the CD as I go.

I hope you enjoy it :)
